"Governments from all Baltic Sea countries, as well as Belarus participate in this co-operative initiative. The VASAB 2010 area covers the following Baltic countries or parts of them:
- Belarus,
- Denmark,
- Estonia,
- Finland,
- Germany,
- Latvia,
- Lithuania,
- Norway (till June 2003),
- Poland,
- Russia,
- Sweden.
Germany and Russia participate also through representatives from the regions which are adjacent to the Baltic Sea Region (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Schleswig-Holstein Lands in Germany, Kaliningrad Oblast and St. Petersburg representing NW Russian regions in Russia).
The main purpose of the Committee on Spatial Development in the Baltic Sea Region is to offer a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience in spatial planning, to support Ministers to create common spatial policy perspective, to promote practical projects and to cooperate with other pan-Baltic organizations (e.g. Baltic 21, CBSS, HELCOM, Ministers of Transport) in promoting of effective spatial development in the region."
