definition:

"Policy intended to bring forward measures to address social and economic disparities between regions. It will usually entail promoting the economy of relatively poor regions through financial aid, training and other action, and controlling growth in relatively rich regions. Regional policy operates at the EU and national levels although it might also operate to address disparities between sub-regions within a large 'region'."
