Существует два вида охраняемых территорий: территории, требующие охраны от внешнего воздействия, например, земли природоохранного назначения и водоохранные зоны. Ко второму виду относятся территории, которые сами являются источником вредного воздействия на другие территории. К ним относятся шумозащитные зоны, находящиеся вдоль трасс или в зоне аэропортов и др.

english definition:Areas of land on which certain types of usage are prohibited or restricted in order to provide protection for some other usage. In terms of the direction of the protection afforded, two categories of protected areas can be distinguished: protection areas which themselves require protection from external sources of nuisance or impairment, i.e. the protection of a specific object or type of usage against adverse impacts; this category includes nature protection areas and water protection areas; protection areas which give rise to a need for protection in order to prevent them being a source of nuisance or impairment to others, i.e. to afford protection to others against adverse impacts (or extrusions) emanating from the site; this category includes the noise protection areas alongside a busy motorway or around airports.
