I forbindelse med kommunalreformen oprettes der 7 regionale miljøcentre rundt om i landet, som fra den 1. januar 2007 skal varetage størstedelen af de opgaver, som overgår til staten. Det drejer sig eksempelvis om vandplaner og Natura-2000 planer, (dele af) vand- og naturovervågningen, administration af strandbeskyttelseslinien og forskellige andre opgaver efter naturbeskyttelsesloven, store VVM-sager efter planloven m.m.

english definition:

Pursuant to the reform of local government that entered into force in January 2007, seven regional environmental centres have been established throughout Denmark. These centres manage most of the tasks that have been transferred to the state. These include water resource plans and Natura 2000 plans, (part of) the surveillance of water resources and nature, administration of the beach protection line and other tasks pursuant to the Protection of Nature Act and major projects requiring environmental impact assessment in accordance with the Planning Act.
