Offentlige institutioner til undervisningsbrug omfatter skoler, gymnasier, højere uddannelser, forskning og kursus/konference, mens andre institutioner blandt andet kan være hospitaler, kollegier, børneinstitutioner, ældreinstitutioner, døgninstitutioner og ungdoms- og ældreboliger. Areal til offentlige institutioner kan reguleres af fysisk planlægning gennem lokalplanen og kommuneplanens rammedel.

Public educational institutions include primary and secondary schools, higher education, research and courses and conferences. Other institutions include hospitals, dormitories, child-care centres, institutions for elderly people, 24-hour care institutions and dwellings for young and elderly people. Land used for public services is subject to regulation in spatial planning through local plans and the municipal plan.
