Et vådområde er en betegnelse, der dækker over alle typer fugtige og våde områder med en vanddybde på op til 6 m. Enten ligger vandspejlet lige under jordoverfladen, i nedbørsrige perioder måske over (våde enge, moser), ellers er jordoverfladen permanent dækket af vand (sø). Kommuneplanen skal indeholde retningslinjer for lavbundsarealer, herunder beliggenheden af lavbundsarealer, der kan genoprettes som vådområder.

Wetland covers all types of humid and wet land with a water depth of up to 6 m. The water table is either located just below the surface of the earth or, in periods with heavy precipitation, just above the surface of the earth (humid permanent grasslands or bogs, marshes or moors). The surface can also be permanently covered by water (lakes). The municipal plan must contain guidelines for low-lying areas that can be re-established as wetlands.
