Keskkonnakaitse nõuded koosnevad loodusobjektide kaitsenõuetest, veekaitsenõuetest, veekogude sanitaarkaitsenõuetest, mullakaitsenõuetest, õhukaitsenõuetest, jäätmekäitlusnõuetest ja metsakaitsenõuetest. Keskkonnakaitsenõuded on kehtestatud valdkondlike seaduse, Vabariigi Valitsuse õigusaktide ning keskkonnaministri regulatsioonide poolt.
