Maa reserveerimine tähendab, et üldplaneeringus reserveeritakse maad senisest maakasutusest erineva maakasutusfunktsiooni tarbeks. Maa reserveerimine üldplaneeringus ei tähenda, et selle maakasutust tuleks automaatselt muuta. See pakub selleks võimalust, kui vajadus ja nõudlus selle järele tekib. Uus, reserveeritud maakasutus on kohustuslik kinnisvaraarenduse puhul planeeritud maa-alal.

Reservation of land refers to the reservations of areas in a comprehensive plan for a different land use than is their present intended use. Reservation of land does not mean that the land use of these areas should be converted to a new one at once. It provides possibility for doing so, if the necessity and demand will emerge in the future. The new "reserved" land use is mandatory in case of new development projects in the planning area.
