Supelranna maa on üks üldplaneeringu maakasutuse juhtfunktsioonidest. Looduskaitseseadus defineerib supelrannana selleks üldplaneeringuga määratud ala veekogu ääres, mille põhiülesanne on inimestele puhkuse võimaldamine. Supelranda teenindavate rajatiste iseloomu ja paigutuse määrab kohalik omavalitsus detailplaneeringuga või selle puudumisel ehitusmäärusega.

One of the main functions of land use in comprehensive plan. Nature Protection Act defines a bathing area as an area determined by the comprehensive plan situated by a body of water established with the main objective of provision of recreational activities to persons. The act also says that the character and location of civil engineering works servicing a bathing area shall be established by the local government by a comprehensive plan or, in the absence thereof, by a detailed plan and that bathing areas have no water protection areas.
