Tiheasustusega ala on territoorium linna või alevi piirides või siis aleviku või küla olemasolevad või planeeritavad selgelt piiritletavad kompaktse asustusega territooriumi osad. Tiheasustusalade määramine on üheks üldplaneeringu ja maakonnaplaneeringu eesmärgiks. Tiheasustusalad määratakse maakonnaplaneeringuga juhul kui need ei ole määratud kehtestatud üldplaneeringuga.

A densely populated area is the territory within the boundaries of a city or town or existing or planned clearly delimited built up parts of the territory of a small town or village. It is one of the objectives of a conprehensive plan and a county plan to designate densely populated areas. The areas should be designated by a county plan if these areas have not been designated by an adopted comprehensive plan.
