Lakisääteinen kaavoituksen yhteydessä toteutettava menettely, jossa selvitetään ja raportoidaan suunnitelmien ja vaihtoehtojen toteuttamisen ympäristövaikutukset, yhdyskuntataloudelliset, sosiaaliset, kulttuuriset ja muut vaikutukset.
Vaikutusten arvioinnista vastaa kaavan laatija, joko kunta tai maakunnan liitto.

english definition:

A statutory procedure implemented in the statutory land use planning context, in which the environmental, urban economical, social, cultural and other impacts of the implementation of the plans and alternatives is assessed and reported.
Assessing the impacts is in the charge of the same organisation that is in charge of the drawing up the statutory land use plan, i.e. either the local authority or the regional council.
