Yhdyskuntarakenteella tarkoitetaan työssäkäyntialueen, kaupunkiseudun, kaupungin, kaupunginosan tai muun taajaman rakennetta. Käsite sisältää asunto-, työpaikka-, asiointi- ja virkistysalueiden ja niitä yhdistävän liikenteen ja teknisen huollon järjestelmien muodostaman fyysisen ja toiminnallisen kokonaisuuden.
Yleiskäsite, jolle ei ole yhtä vakiintunutta määritelmää huolimatta sen keskeisyydestä yhdyskuntasuunnittelussa.

A land use structure of a human community or a complex of human communities.
Urban structure means the structure of a commuting area, an urban region, a city, a city district or another urban settlement. The term includes the physical and functional whole consisting of areas for housing, working, services and recreation and of systems of transport and utility networks connecting them.
General term which does not have a single established definition, despite its centrality in urban and regional planning.
