Arheoloģiskie pieminekļi jeb senvietas, par kurām nozīmīgākā informācija tiek iegūta arheoloģiskajos izrakumos ir aizsargājami kultūras pieminekļi. Ir šāda veida arheoloģiskie pieminekļi - senās dzīvesvietas (piemēram, apmetnes, ciemi, pilskalni, ezermītnes, mūra pilis, pilsētu vēsturiskais kultūrslānis), senkapi un to virszemes veidojumi, viduslaiku un agro jauno laiku kapsētas, senās kulta vietas (piemēram, kalni, akmeņi, koki, alas, birzis), senās saimnieciskās darbības vietas (piemēram, ražotņu, agrāro sistēmu vietas), senās kauju, apspriežu, tiesu un pulcēšanās vietas, senie ceļi, militāra rakstura būves, hidrotehniskās būves, nogrimušie kuģi un to kravas. Arheoloģiskie pieminekļi var atrasties zemē, virs zemes vai ūdenī un tiek pētīti ar arheoloģiskām metodēm.

Archaeological monuments are archaeological sites, regarding which the most important information is acquired in archaeological excavations that are a type of protected cultural monuments. There are following types of archaeological monuments - ancient dwelling sites (for example, settlements, villages, hillforts, lake settlements, stone castles, historical cultural layer of cities), ancient burial sites and the surface formations thereof, medieval and Early Modern Period cemeteries, ancient cult sites (for example, hills, stones, trees, caves, groves), ancient sites of economic activity (for example, production sites, agrarian system sites), ancient sites of battles, consultations, courts and gatherings, ancient roads, structures of military nature, hydro-technical structures, sunken ships and the cargoes thereof. The archaeological monuments may be located in the ground, above the ground or in the water and they are investigated with archeological methods.
