Ir četru veidu autonovietnes: 1) atklāta autostāvvieta ir automašīnu novietnes vieta, kas nav iekļauta ēkā vai tās daļā un kas ir nodalīta (nožogota) automašīnu novietošanai uz laiku. 2) slēgta autostāvvieta ir automašīnu novietnes vieta, kas ir iekļauta ēkā vai tās daļā automašīnu novietošanai uz laiku, bet nav garāža. 3) garāža - automašīnu novietnes būve vai tās daļa, kas saskaņā ar būvprojektu ir paredzēta autonovietnei un ir iekļauta ēkā vai tās daļā pastāvīgai automašīnas vai automašīnu novietošanai. Garāža var būt privātai vai publiskai izmantošanai.
