Autoosta ir vieta, kas paredzēta autobusu satiksmes pasažieru un personāla apkalpošanai un autobusu īslaicīgai novietošanai. Tā ir līniju būve, kurā ietilpst speciālas ēkas, peroni un teritorija, kas paredzēta pasažieru un autotransporta līdzekļu apkalpošanai maršrutos. Autobuss ir autotransporta līdzeklis, kas paredzēts pasažieru (deviņu un vairāk cilvēku, neieskaitot šoferi) pārvadāšanai. Autoostu celtniecību un to teritoriju labiekārtošanu un uzturēšanu veic to īpašnieks vai valdītājs. Autoostu izvietojumu un skaitu nosaka attiecīgā pašvaldība. Autoostu reģistrācijas kārtību un autoostās obligāti sniedzamos pakalpojumus nosaka Ministru kabinets.

Bus station is a place that is intended for the servicing passengers and personnel of bus traffic and where the short-term bus parking is provided as well. It is a line structure, which includes special buildings, platforms and territories which are intended for servicing passengers and road transport vehicles in routes. Bus means a road transport vehicle intended for the carriage of passengers (nine and more people, excluding the driver). Bus stations construction, improvements and maintenance are organized by its owner or tenant. The number of bus stations and their location are defined by relevant municipality. The procedure of bus stations registration and the list of obligatory services to be provided in the bus stations are defined by the Council of Ministers.
