Kohēzija burtiski nozīmē "turēšanās kopā". Žargona izteiciens "veicināt sociālo kohēziju" nozīmē, ka Eiropas Savienībā mēģina nodrošināt katram vietu sabiedrībā, piemēram, apkarojot nabadzību, bezdarbu un diskrimināciju. ES budžetā ir naudas līdzekļi, kas pazīstami kā "Kohēzijas fonds", ko lieto tādu projektu finansēšanai, kas palīdz ES "turēties kopā". Piemēram, no tā finansē jaunus ceļus un dzelzceļa posmus, kas palīdz mazāk attīstītiem reģioniem pilnībā iekļauties ES ekonomikā.

english definition:

Cohesion means (literally) 'sticking together'. The jargon term 'promoting social cohesion' means the EU tries to make sure that everyone has a place in society - for example by tackling poverty, unemployment and discrimination. The EU budget includes money known as the 'Cohesion Fund' which is used to finance projects that help the EU 'stick together'. For example, it finances new road and rail links that help disadvantaged regions take a full part in the EU economy.
