Koku aizsargjoslas uzlabo mikroklimatu, paaugstinot augsnes un gaisa temperatūru, saglabā augsnes mitrumu, samazinot iztvaikošanu. Aizsargjoslu negatīvā ietekme novērojama pavasaros, jo lēnāk nožūst augsne. Koku saknes traucē lauku apstrādi, taču, kur vien iespējams, jāsaglabā koku un krūmu stādījumi. Koku aizsargjoslas veido ņemot vērā lauku robežas, ceļu, grāvju un ēku novietojumu. Tās papildina lauku bioloģisko daudzveidību un kalpo kā mājvieta putniem un derīgiem kukaiņiem.

english definition:

The shelterbelts contribute to the improvement of the microclimate by increasing of soil and air to, and by preserving soil moisture that decreases evapotranspiration. Negative impact of the shelterbelts might be observed in spring due to the slower drying of the soil. Roots of the trees also hinder soil tillage close to the shelterbelts. However, the trees and bushes should be preserved wherever it is possible. Location of field borders, channels, roads, and farm buildings have to be considered in the design of the shelterbelts. The shelterbelts improve biodiversity in the rural areas and constitute the habitat for birds and valuable insects.
