Meža zeme ir zeme, uz kuras ir mežs, zeme zem meža infrastruktūras objektiem, kā arī mežā ietilpstošie un tam piegulošie pārplūstošie klajumi, purvi un lauces. Par meža zemi neuzskata valsts, pašvaldību, uzņēmumu un māju esošā ceļa (izņemot mežsaimniecības ceļus) un dzelzceļa zemes nodalījuma joslu normatīvajos aktos noteiktajā platumā, ja ceļš vai dzelzceļš šķērso meža teritoriju;  esošas elektrisko tīklu un elektronisko sakaru tīklu gaisvadu līniju trases normatīvajos aktos noteiktajā platumā, ja trase šķērso meža teritoriju.

Forestland is land covered by forest, land under forest infrastructure facilities, as well as adjacent overflowing clearings, marshes and glades. The following is not regarded as a forestland – state, enterprise or homesteads existing roads (except forestry roads) and railway line in the cases when roads cross the forestland; and existing electro energy and communication lines in the cases when lines cross the forestland.
