Parks ir sabiedriskas nozīmes dabas objekts, kas var atbilst meža ekosistēmas nosacījumiem, kam ir īpaši izveidota infrastruktūra un kam nepieciešama regulāra kopšana un atjaunošana, saglabājot vai uzlabojot teritorijas estētisko, ainavisko un kultūrvēsturisko vērtību.

Parks ir noteikta, ar dārzu mākslas un ainavu arhitektūras paņēmieniem kompleksi veidota publiskās ārtelpas apstādījumu teritorija, kas paredzēta un izbūvēta daudzveidīgas, t.sk. ilglaicīgas atpūtas vajadzībām un pilsētvides ekoloģiskās un ainaviskās kvalitātes paaugstināšanai, kur apbūve, arī pazemes, nav pieļaujama, izņemot gadījumus, kas paredzēti apstādījumu un dabas teritorijas izņēmuma un papildu noteikumos. Vienlaicīgi parks nozīmē noteiktas atklātās publiskās telpas primāro atļauto izmantošanu galvenokārt cilvēka atpūtas vajadzībām.

Parka izveidošanas kārtību un apsaimniekošanas pamatprincipus nosaka Ministru kabinets. Pašvaldība izdod saistošos noteikumus par konkrētā parka apsaimniekošanu un aizsardzību.

Park is nature object with public importance that can be regarded as forest ecosystem and that has the deliberately created infrastructure and that requires regular maintenance and regeneration in order to preserve or increase its esthetical, landscape and culture and historical value.

Park is a specific open space area of plantations arranged by complex means of gardening and landscape architecture, available for general public, intended and constructed for multipurpose (including lasting) recreational activities and for improvement of urban ecological and landscape qualities. Any constructions including underground are not permitted there, except cases that are provided by the supplementary and exemption regulations for plantations and nature territories. At the same time, the park means primary permitted utilization of specific open public space mainly to provide the needs of human recreation.

The park establishment procedure and general maintenance principles are defined by the Cabinet of Ministers. Binding regulations on a particular park maintenance and protection are issued by the municipality.
