Pierobežas režīmu un pierobežas joslas režīmu nosaka, lai radītu Latvijas Republikas valsts robežas apsardzībai nepieciešamos apstākļus. Pierobežas režīms un pierobežas joslas režīms ir tādu pasākumu komplekss, kas vērsti pret fizisko personu nelikumīgu valsts robežas šķērsošanu jebkurā veidā un ar jebkuriem līdzekļiem ārpus Ministru kabineta noteiktajām valsts robežas šķērsošanas vietām, kā arī pret fizisko personu rīcībā esošo preču un citu priekšmetu nelikumīgu pārvietošanu pāri valsts robežai, kā arī kārtība, kas ietver valsts robežas drošības interesēs noteiktus personu pienākumus un tiesības.

english definition:

The border area regime and the border zone regime is determined to create the conditions necessary for the guarding of the State border of the Republic of Latvia. The border area regime and the border zone regime are a set of measures directed against illegal crossing of the State border by natural persons in any manner and by any means, as well as against illegal movement of goods and other objects at the disposal of natural persons over the State border outside of the State border crossing points specified by the Cabinet of Ministers; and procedures which incorporate the duties and rights of persons specified in the interests of State border safety.
