Swedenrajonu pašvaldība
national definition:Latvijā ir divu veidu pašvaldības: rajonu pašvaldības un vietējās pašvaldības. Pašvaldības savas kompetences un likuma ietvaros darbojas patstāvīgi. Rajona pašvaldība ir rajonu (reģionālā) pārvalde, kas ar vietējo pašvaldību deleģētās pārstāvniecības — padomes — un tās izveidoto institūciju un iestāžu starpniecību nodrošina likumos noteikto funkciju un vietējo pašvaldību deleģēto funkciju izpildi, ievērojot valsts un attiecīgā rajona administratīvās teritorijas iedzīvotāju intereses. Lai izpildītu savas funkcijas, pašvaldībām likumā noteiktajā kārtībā ir pienākums izstrādāt pašvaldības teritorijas attīstības programmu un teritorijas plānojumu un nodrošināt teritorijas attīstības programmas realizāciju un teritorijas plānojuma administratīvo pārraudzību.

english definition:There are two types of local government in Latvia: district local governments and territorial local governments. Local governments, within the scope of their competence and the law, shall act independently.A district local government is the district (regional) administration which, through the agency delegated by the territorial local governments – district council – and authorities and institutions established by the council, ensures the performance of the functions prescribed by law and functions delegated by the territorial local governments, observing the interests of the State and the residents of the relevant district administrative territory. In order to perform their functions, local governments, in accordance with procedures prescribed by law, have the duty to prepare a development programme for the territory of the relevant local government and to ensure the implementation of the territorial development plan and the administrative supervision of territorial planning.
