Sarkanā līnija ir pašvaldības apstiprinātajā teritorijas plānojumā noteiktā līnija, kas norobežo ceļa, ielas vai piebrauktuves (arī inženierkomunikāciju koridoru) izbūvei nepieciešamo teritoriju no apbūvējamās vai citādā veidā izmantojamās teritorijas. Sarkanā līnija ir esoša vai projektēta ielas robeža. Pašvaldība var likumā noteiktajā kārtībā atsavināt zemes gabalu vai tā daļu, ja sarkanā līnija ir noteikta uz zemes gabala.

english definition:

Red line is the line specified in the spatial plan approved by the local government, which shall delimit the territory necessary for the building of a road, street or access road from the territory to be built-upon or to be otherwise utilised territory. Red line is an existing or projected street border. Local government may dispossess the land plot or part thereof according to procedures specified in Law, if the red line has been determined on specific plot.
