Probleminis arealas - Teritorijų planavimo įstatymas, rengiant bendruosius planus, reikalauja ištirti problemines situacijas ir arealus. Oficialaus termino „probleminis arealas" išaiškinimo nėra. 2001 m Lietuvos Respublikos teritorijos bendrajame plane problemine situacija vadinama nepalankių socialinės ir ekonominės ar ekologinės raidos požymių įsigalėjimas, teisinio statuso nepakankamumas arba skirtingų interesų priešprieša konkrečioje teritorijoje. Probleminis arealas šiame plane suprantamas kaip plati zona, jungianti probleminių situacijų sankaupas arba atskirų konfliktų išryškėjimo teritorijas.

Problematic area - The Law on Territorial Planning requires examining problematic situations and areas in drafting master plans. The definition of the official term "problematic area" does not exist. The 2001 General Plan of the Territory of the Republic of Lithuania defines a problematic situation as: an existence of unfavourable peculiarities of the social and economic or ecological development; lunacy of a legal statute or contraposition of different interests in the concrete territory. Problematic area in this plan is conceived as a broad zone integrating banks of problematic situations or territories of separate conflicts.
