Savivaldybė - Valstybės teritorijos administracinis vienetas, turintis juridinio asmens statusą bei Lietuvos Respublikos Konstitucijos laiduotą savivaldos teisę, įgyvendinamą per savivaldybės tarybą. Savivaldybės rengia savo teritorijos bendruosius ir detaliuosius planus, dalyvauja apskrities bei valstybės teritorijos planavime.

Municipality (local authority) - An administrative unit of the territory of the State which possesses the status of legal person, as well as the right to self-government guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania; the said right is executed through the Municipal Council. The Municipality prepares master and detailed plans of its own territory; participate in planning of the counties and the territory of the State.
