Urbanistinis karkasas - Aktyviausios ūkinės bei kultūrinės plėtros centrų ir ašių teritorinė sistema su labiausiai pertvarkyta gamtine aplinka bei išplėtotais inžinerinės infrastruktūros kompleksais (Pagal Kraštovaizdžio tvarkymo specialiųjų planų rengimo taisykles) gyvenamųjų vietovių atraminė sistema (pagal Lietuvos Respublikos teritorijos bendrąjį planą). Šią sistemą minėtame dokumente sudaro didžiausi šalies miestai („urbanistiniai centrai"), juos jungiančios susisiekimo linijos („urbanistinės integracijos ašys") ir visa tai supantis jų poveikio arealas.

Urban framework - A territorial system of centres and axes of the most active economic and cultural development with highly reorganized natural environment as well as greatly developed engineering infrastructure facilities (According to the Regulations for the Drafting of Special Plans of Landscape Management) a retaining system of populated localities (According to the General Plan of the Republic of Lithuania). This system consists of the biggest towns of the State ("urban centres"), communications lines connecting the said towns ("an axis of urban integration") and the area surrounding all this.
