Lovfestet sideordnet kategori for arealbruk og reguleringsformål sammen med landbruks- og naturområder i kommuneplanens arealdel (jf.).

For alle disse kategoriene kan det gis bestemmelser om omfang og lokalisering av spredt boligbebyggelse og ervervs bebyggelse som ikke er tilknyttet stedbunden næring, og om fritidsbebyggelse, herunder stille krav til bebyggelsesplan. I den sammenheng kan det også stilles areal- og funksjonskrav til leke- og oppholdsarealer, samt krav til ferdigstillelse.

Statutory land use term, together with agricultural and natural areas, and regulatory zoning category of the Land
use part of the municipal master plan (cf.).

For all these land use categories provisions may be laid down concerning the extent and location of scattered residential buildings and commercial buildings that are not connected to industry specifically linked to the local area, and concerning leisure cabins, including a requirement for a building development plan. It might also be imposed requirements concerning the size and functions of play areas and other outside public areas, including requirements that such areas are completed at the same time as the dwelling.
