Professional term for acquirement of land in connection to planning and property development, but traditionally used in relation to public purchase of land for development.
Land acquisition can be based on voluntary buying and selling, on the exclusive right to step in as a buyer, on the right of pre-emption, or on the right to buy according to former usage, and eventually on compulsory purchase, cf. Expropriation.
