Lov av 21. juni 1963 nr. 23. Lovens formal å sikre planlegging, bygging, vedlikehold og drift av offentlige og private veger, slik at vegtrafikken kan gå på en måte som trafikanter og samfunnet til en hver tid er tjent med. Vegmyndighetenes overordnete mål er å skape en tryggest og best mulig trafikkavikling balanser mot hensynet til naboer, miljø og samfunnsinteresser forøvrig.

Act of June 21, 1963 No. 23. The purpose of the Act is to safeguard planning, building, maintainance and the running of public and private roads in order to meet the road transportation needs of individuals as well as the society. The overall aim for the road authorities in this regard is to create the best possible conditions for road safety and capacities under the considerations of roads' neighborhood, a sound environment and other interests.
