Allemansrätten är en urgammal svensk sedvana, d v s oskriven rätt, som innebär att envar har frihet att färdas över och uppehålla sig på annans mark- och vattenområden. Allemansrätten inbegriper också rätten att tillgodogöra sig vissa naturprodukter, såsom vilda bär, svamp och icke fridlysta blommor. Denna rätt saknar motstycke i flertalet länder. Allemansrätten finns sedan 1994 inskriven i grundlagen.
Det finns dock gränser för allemansrätten för att skydda markägarens intressen. Markägaren får i princip inte tillfogas skada. Till exempel så gäller friheten att färdas över annans mark inte tomt, nysådd åker och annan ömtålig äga. Om man gör detta kan man straffas.

The right of public access is an ancient Swedish custom, i.e. an unwritten right, that means that everyone has the right to cross and stay on another's land and water areas. The right of public access also includes the right to take advantage of certain products of nature, such as wild berries, mushrooms and non-protected flowers. This right is unparalleled in the majority of countries. Since 1994 the right of public access forms part of the constitution.
However, there are limits for the right of public access to protect the interests of the land-owner. In principle, the land owner cannot be inflicted damage. For example, the right to cross another's land does not include the plot of land around another's house, newly cultivated fields or other sensitive grounds. Doing this can lead to legal penalties.
