På regional nivå är kommunerna organiserade i länsförbund, kallade kommunförbund, med i princip samma organisationsmönster som den centrala nivån. Länsförbundens uppdrag är att:

  • stödja och utveckla den kommunala självstyrelsen;
  • tillvarata kommunernas intressen;
  • främja samverkan mellan kommunerna;
  • bistå kommunerna i deras verksamhet.

On the regional level, local authorities (municipalities) are organised into county associations called associations of local authorities (municipalities). In principle, the organisation is the same as on the central level. The tasks of the county associations are:

  • to support and develop municipal (local authority) autonomy;
  • to safeguard the interests of the local authorities (municipalities);
  • to promote cooperation between the authorities;
  • to assist the local authorities (municipalities) in their activities.
