Skyddsformen kulturreservat är relativt ny. Den infördes i och med att miljöbalken trädde i kraft i januari 1999. Ett mark- eller vattenområde får förklaras som kulturreservat i syfte att bevara värdefulla, kulturpräglade landskap.

english definition:

The protected category of culture reserve is relatively new. It was introduced when the Environmental Code entered into force in January 1999. A land or water area can be declared a culture reserve in order to preserve valuable landscapes with a cultural character.
