Naturminne

national definition:

Då ett särpräglat naturföremål behöver skyddas eller vårdas särskilt får föremålet tillsammans med erforderligt markområde, av länsstyrelsen eller kommunen, förklaras som naturminne. I Sverige fanns år 2000 omkring 1500 naturminnen. Merparten är träd, men även sjöar, växtlokaler, rullstensåsar m m har skyddats som naturminnen. Idag avsätts få naturminnen, istället inrättas naturreservat.

Natural monument

english definition:

In cases when a distinctive natural monument needs protection or special care the object and a requisite land area can be declared a natural monument by the county administrative board or the municipality. In the year 2000 there were about 1500 natural monuments in Sweden. The majority of these are trees but lakes, habitats, boulder ridges, etc, have also been protected as natural monuments. Today few natural monuments are declared, nature reserves are established instead.
