Naturreservat

national definition:

Ett mark- eller vattenområde får enligt miljöbalken av länsstyrelsen eller kommunen förklaras som naturreservat i syfte att bevara värdefull natur, till skydd för växt- och djurlivet eller för att tillgodose behovet av områden för friluftsliv. Ofta sätts vårdåtgärder in och betydande begränsningar av möjligheterna att nyttja marken införs. Som kompensation utgår ersättning till markägaren.
År 1997 var antalet naturreservat i Sverige 1948 stycken, vilket motsvarade en area av 2 863 496 ha, alltså cirka 6,4 % av Sveriges yta.

In accordance with the Environmental Code, a land or water area can be declared a nature reserve by the county administrative board or the municipality, in order to preserve valuable nature, to protect flora and fauna or to meet the need of areas for outdoor recreation. Often management measures are implemented and significant limitations on the possibilities to use the land are introduced. The land-owner received compensation.
In 1997 the number of nature reserves in Sweden amounted to 1948, covering an area of 2 863 496 hectares, or 6.4% of the surface area or Sweden.
