Skogsvårdslagen är en lag som reglerar användningen av skogsmark. Nuvarande lag, som är från 1993, innehåller fler och strängare miljöregler jämfört med den tidigare. Även andra lagar innehåller regler som berör skogsbruket. Det gäller till exempel skydd av olika biotoper, frågor om fastighetsbildning samt skydd av skogsmark för skogsproduktion.
I Sverige finns en central myndighet, Skogsstyrelsen, som skall se till att den beslutade skogspolitiken genomförs i landet. Sverige är sedan indelat i regioner med en regional myndighet, Skogsvårdsstyrelse, som sköter den direkta utövningen av skogsvårdslagen i regionen. I Sverige finns stöd till olika skogliga åtgärder.
Forest Conservation Act

The Forest Conservation Act is a law that regulates the use of forested land. The current law from 1993 contains an increased number, and more strict environmental rules, than the previous law. Other laws also contain rules that affect forestry. These rules are, for example: the protection of different biotopes, questions concerning property subdivision and the protection of forested land for forest production.
Sweden has a central authority, the Swedish Forest Agency, whose task is to oversee that official forest policy is implemented in the country. Sweden is divided into regions, each with a regional authority, the Regional Forestry Board, that is in charge of exercising the Forest Conservation Act directly in the region. Support funds for different forest measures exist in Sweden.
