Urbanisering är en stads eller tätorts tillväxt. Oftast på bekostnad av gles- och landsbygd. Denna process definieras olika i olika länder beroende på definitionen av stad/tätort. Då man utgår ifrån FNs definition var urbaniseringsgraden i Sverige år 1990 cirka 55 %. Om man utgår ifrån det inom svensk statistik använda begreppet tätort var urbaniseringsgraden cirka 84 % år 1995.

Urbanization is the growth of a town or urban settlement, normally at the expense of sparsely populated areas or rural areas. This process is defined differently in different countries, depending on the definition of town/urban settlement. Based on the UN definition, the level of urbanization in Sweden in 1990 was about 55%. Based on the term urban settlement used in Swedish statistics the urbanization level was about 84% in 1995.
